Gift Orban Scout Report At Hellas Verona 20252026 - Player Analysis

Nigerian striker Gift Orban has joined Hellas Verona on loan with an option to buy coming from the German side TSG Hoffenheim.

Orban started his career in Nigeria before moving to Stabæk Fotball.

During a successful spell, he helped the Norwegian side earn promotion to the Eliteserien and won individual trophies, including the OBOS-ligaen top scorer of the season and the Young Player of the Season award.

In 2023, Orban moved to Gent and set several records, including scoring seven goals in five matches to quickly become the highest-scoring debutant in the Belgian Pro League.

Furthermore, Orban scored three goals in 205 seconds against Istanbul Başakşehir in the UEFA Conference League, claiming the fastest hat-trick in UEFA competition history.

A transfer to Olympique Lyonnais in January 2024 derailed his momentum.

He was unable to finish the season with Gent, just as he had not been able to finish the previous season with Stabæk.

The transfer to Lyon ultimately proved a misjudged one.

Orban had difficulty settling in with his new team in mid-season and did not get sufficient playing time in the second half of the campaign.

In 2024/2025, Orban was not considered in the head coach’s plans and participated in only three matches during the first half of the season.

Luckily for him, Orban succeeded in returning to consistent playing following his January move to Hoffenheim, which helped him catch the attention of Hellas Verona.

Our Gift Orban scout report will focus on the goalscoring traits that differentiate Gift Orban from other strikers and make him a potentially useful signing for I Gialloblù.

The analysis will also examine how Hellas Verona can better utilize Orban and leverage his strengths more effectively, taking into account his weaknesses and areas for improvement.

Gift Orban Style Of Play

Gift Orban is a striker who typically plays as either a main striker or a second striker, and has also been deployed on the wings and as an advanced playmaker on select occasions.

Orban’s physical characteristics and technical abilities allow him to play in most, if not all, attacking positions, but with more suitability for the striker role.

He is a clinical finisher and a player who strives to receive passes in goal-scoring positions by moving well without the ball and dealing extremely well with the chances he creates while in possession.

This means that Gift Orban can be considered a reliable player when he receives the ball inside the final third, as he knows exactly what to do in most situations, which makes him very useful and dangerous in that area.

Gift Orban Position In Hellas Verona Tactics

Gift Orban is excellent at taking penalties; he can finish with headers thanks to his impressive jump height, and he deals well with the passes he receives inside the box by creating goalscoring chances for himself even when marked, using efficient and quick dribbling skills.

His agility helps him lose markers and pave the way for himself to shoot or progress towards goal.

Therefore, Orban can also be a suitable and efficient left winger if Hellas Verona needs to fill that spot during the season.

For now, Paolo Zanetti has been using Gift Orban mainly as a striker alongside Giovane in a 3-5-2 formation.

This gives Gift Orban even more space and time to be dangerous in the Hellas Verona attack, since he is not the only striker for the opposition to focus on; he has a partner, too.

Gift Orban Position Within Hellas Verona Formation

With a player like Gift Orban, who is very dynamic and agile in terms of movement with and without the ball, we can expect a lot more from him compared to what he has already shown during his initial participations with Hellas Verona.

Indeed, the following pizza chart does not show some promising numbers from an attacking perspective.

Yet, Orban has the ability in his locker to perform far beyond this level if he succeeds in guaranteeing the consistency he was unable to find in recent seasons.

Gift Orban Attacking Positioning

That said, Gift Orban proved during his time at Hoffenheim that he can be very reliable in terms of headers and dealing with crosses and set-pieces.

He loses his marker frequently, thanks to his intelligent anticipatory movements before receiving the ball.

Furthermore, Orban enjoys making ball progression actions and can be extremely dangerous when given space.

In terms of positioning, he can be very useful to Hellas Verona because he does not miss any opportunity to exploit space and attack it quickly, utilizing his excellent acceleration abilities, which can make a significant difference for him in Serie A.

This example highlights Orban’s intelligent and anticipatory movement towards a key spot at the right timing, despite knowing his teammate could have gone for the solo solution.

That movement allowed Orban to receive the ball and score, mainly thanks to his well-timed acceleration towards that spot, leaving his marker behind and using his pace to keep him away at the moment of shooting.

Gift Orban Finishing Abilities

Gift Orban’s goals for Hoffenheim during the second half of last season underscore the maturity he demonstrated in terms of movement, shooting, and positioning in open play and set pieces.

Gift Orban Movement Without The Ball & Headers

Even though he is not as tall as some, standing at 178cm / 5’10”, he makes up for that by moving intelligently, with more agility and efficiency, to receive the ball in a way that allows him to score while avoiding markers.

The following goal action further confirms Orban’s quick movement inside the box and the fact that he was automatically capable of taking the right decision to be at the right spot when his teammate launches the cross.

At the beginning of the action, Orban was very close to his direct marker, as the picture shows, but as the action progressed, he moved away from him by accelerating towards the far post and receiving the ball in that area, before finishing inside the net with an accurate header.

Gift Orban Acrobatic Finishing

In addition to Gift Orban’s anticipatory movements without the ball, the Nigerian striker has proven that he masters different types of finishing depending on the situation, including the execution of complicated finishing moves to catch difficult passes/crosses.

The picture below shows one of the most difficult acrobatic moves Orban attempted, knowing that he received a powerful cross that reached him quickly, leaving him almost no time to think about and execute a specific move.

Despite that, Orban surprised everyone with a very complicated yet accurate finish, using a high jump with his right foot to touch the ball and put it inside the net.

This kind of finishing can help him offer something different at Hellas Verona, and the coaching staff should continue to encourage the attacking players to send him accurate crosses without fearing his height.

Orban is a threat from crosses even when being marked by taller defenders.

He uses his anticipatory movements to avoid marking or attempting special, unexpected moves.

Gift Orban Areas Of Improvement

To succeed in Italy, Gift Orban will have to exploit his quick runs and dribbling abilities even further, as he will have to become a bit more decisive in front of goal.

Against Juventus, he had the chance to score more goals but was unable to do so due to some poor decisions related to shooting and finishing.

In this missed action, Orban made the correct movement and was able to exploit Juventus’ defender’s misplaced pass.

However, despite being in front of the goalkeeper and having the time to decide, he failed to finish, going for a normal shot that was neither angled nor curved.

In fact, this situation requires a lobbed shot since the goalkeeper went out to close the shooting trajectories for Orban.

Orban needs to make more efficient decisions in front of goal to capitalize on the opportunities he has and become more successful with Hellas Verona.

Gift Orban Shooting From Distance & Curved Shots Needed Improvements

In addition to improving his finishing in front of goal, Gift Orban has shown during the few games he played in Serie A that he attempts as many shots as possible, which is very positive.

However, he needs to train better to improve his shooting power, making his shots from outside the box more powerful and threatening to goalkeepers, given that he has failed in most of the shots from distance he has attempted so far in Serie A.

Moreover, if Orban wants to become more crucial, he will need to pay extra attention to his curved shots.

He attempted several curved shots against Juventus and against Cremonese, but failed to angle his shots in the way they were needed despite the inviting situations.

Conclusion

Gift Orban’s continued positive performances will be crucial to his continued playing time and to confirming, game after game, that he deserves this chance.

Unlike his past few seasons, he deserves continuity and consistency.

If he can get that and the right service with Hellas Verona, expect to see much better attacking numbers from him this season.
