Oskar Hencke At Stuttgarter Kickers 20252026

In the often under-appreciated competitive ecosystem of the Regionalliga Südwest, few prospects have generated as much analytical buzz as Oskar Hencke, a teenager whose technical acuity and tactical maturity have already begun to shape Stuttgarter Kickers’ attacking DNA.

At an age when many of his peers are still navigating physical adaptation and senior match rhythm, Hencke combines sharp spatial awareness with dynamic aggression on the ball; traits that, in any robust tactical analysis, herald not just potential, but readiness for accelerated development.

What elevates Hencke’s narrative beyond that of a promising youth is the very real precedent of players making the leap from regional prominence to national impact.

Consider Younes Ebnoutalib, whose ascent from the Regionalliga Südwest through disciplined progression and performance consistency eventually earned him opportunities in the Bundesliga at Eintracht Frankfurt.

Or Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab, whose evolution from regional standout to a regular contributor in the Regionalliga and 3. Liga underscored how technical refinement and strategic intelligence can translate across competitive tiers.

Even Laurin Curda’s trajectory at SC Paderborn, from a league often overlooked to professional stages, exemplifies how top-level clubs have learned to mine the Regionalliga for players who blend tactical understanding with adaptable flair.

Hencke’s style of play encapsulates this lineage: incisive first-touch combinations under pressure, vertical scanning that pre-empts transitional switches, and a willingness to interlink phases beyond mere instinct.

In Stuttgarter Kickers’ current structure, he acts not just as an outlet to progress possession, but as a catalyst for destabilising compact opposition shapes, an attribute that, if nurtured, could see him follow the path of Ebnoutalib, Amaimouni-Echghouyab and Curda into the professional echelons where tactics grow more nuanced and the margins for decision-making slimmer yet more consequential.

In this introductory scout report, we’ll dissect how Hencke’s foundational skills signal more than raw ability: they point toward a future where the young attacking midfielder from the Regionalliga Südwest doesn’t just transition to higher tiers, but thrives within them.

Oskar Hencke Aggression Against The Ball

Oskar Hencke has been flying under the radar of most football clubs in Germany for a long time, and even today, few casual fans will recognise the name.

The young attacking midfielder joined the Kickers academy at a young age.

Despite multiple opportunities to leave, he decided to stay at the club and continue his development there.

Late in the season, he earned his first professional contract.

Although he could still be playing at the U19 Level, he was called up to the first team at the start of preseason and made the most of his opportunity.

Despite injury struggles, Hencke has made 15 appearances this season and has logged substantial minutes for Stuttgarter Kickers.

Looking at what Hencke does best, it’s interesting to see that he has a big impact in the phase against the ball, something most young attacking players struggle with.

Oskar Hencke scouting report 2025/26: The next big thing out of the Regionalliga Südwest

Early in the season, Hencke was positioned very high in the first line of press by the coaching staff.

For the majority of the time, he has played on the right wing, with some appearances in midfield as well.

The youngster demonstrates considerable intensity and willingness in that phase of play, often attacking the ball and the first pass with good pace and at good angles.

Here, the pass gets played into the other direction, but Hencke quickly shifts to the inside and covers off the diagonal passing option.

Unfortunately, the press did not grip as well as they had hoped, and they managed to get past the first line of press rather easily.

He still shows the mentality you want to see in a young player trying to grasp his chance in the first team.

Hencke covers the distance and makes the high-intensity run back into midfield, recovering position with his good pace.

Overall, the 18-year-old has solid physical attributes, with good size and pace, though he currently clearly lacks strength.

His work rate has been near-perfect at the start of the season, which has earned him a starting position at his young age.

He still has some difficulties with the ball; most of the time, these stem from tactical and communication factors rather than from his actual ability or motor.

Here, we see how the earlier situation unfolded, highlighting the problems the young player faces.

Despite his good effort, he did not manage to close out the player on the ball, so his team now has to defend the ball on the wing.

Hencke attempts to assign the player making a vertical run to his teammate, which isn’t a bad decision in general, but he does not consider his teammates’ positioning; he looks only at the ball.

Ultimately, the timing of the defensive actions is off, and Kickers are unable to defend the ball or the runner, allowing their opponent to get in behind their backline.

Another problem is his defensive positioning; he often was a tad too aggressive at the start of the season and took himself out of situations a lot of times for no real reason.

He often gets caught orienting himself forward and towards the ball too heavily, and this drags him away from his assignment too often.

In the situation depicted above, he is dragged toward the ball, thereby creating a passing lane to the wing-back, forcing him to make another recovery run.

These minor situations accumulate and deplete his stamina.

Hencke is rarely able to play a full ninety at the moment, at least at full intensity.

He needs to improve his conditioning and learn to conserve his energy.

This causes another issue at times.

The young winger is not afraid to drop back into the defensive line, and he defends well for his age.

Hencke is surprisingly effective in direct duels on the ground, using his long legs to reach the ball, and he maintains good balance through contact, allowing him to be very strong in physical duels despite his current lack of mass.

Oskar Hencke In Possession

While his current impact may come more from defending than from attacking, the talent that has drawn multiple Bundesliga teams, including Kickers’ in-city rival VfB Stuttgart, to Oskar Hencke lies in his on-the-ball ability.

Oskar Hencke has a strong sense of space and is adept at getting open to receive in various ways, offering his teammates multiple options to advance the ball to him.

Oskar Hencke scouting report 2025/26: The next big thing out of the Regionalliga Südwest

Overall, Oskar Hencke has a very good footballing IQ, which allows him to manipulate defenders’ positioning effectively and to position his teammates well without touching the ball.

Looking at the picture above, Hencke is positioning himself towards the centre from the start to open up the right-back near the sideline.

When the centre-back starts dribbling forward, Hencke makes a very explosive run towards the half-space, dragging the centre-back with him, thanks to his good understanding of the man-marking of their opponent in those situations.

This allows his pacey right-back to make runs behind the backline, with opposing movement compared to his own, and Kickers found passes behind the backline multiple times in this way.

However, Oskar Hencke is effective not only when he moves into the penalty area but also when there is open space on the wing or elsewhere on the pitch.

His nose for finding the right space at the right time really elevates him above other players in the league and should translate well to a higher tier of German football.

In the situation above, he finds space on the wing and quickly moves towards the outside from the half-space, showing that he is not afraid to go out of his comfort zone when he needs to do something different.

Still, I think he is most comfortable and at his best when he can move into the central areas of the pitch.

I think he will develop into a midfielder rather than a winger at the highest level.

He performs well in those areas; he scans effectively over his shoulder and has a good sense of where the pressure will come from, allowing him to find solutions even in confined spaces and with limited time on the ball.

His early orientation and quick decision-making will also translate well at the next level, and although his actions are not yet perfect in any situation, he will get there.

Another positive aspect of Oskar Hencke is his ability to provide depth for his team, rather than dropping back into midfield.

In the picture above, he quickly drops back into midfield, dragging the centre-back forward once again, but this time he explodes forward and makes the run in the space behind him.

He moves horizontally at first, then initiates his vertical move at the perfect time, catching the defender completely off guard.

Hencke has a great stride length and manages to achieve good separation on these types of runs.

Despite not being a sprinter, he is definitely fast.

If he gets behind the backline, he often has the problem that he needs to get onto his left foot again.
His weak right foot is a huge problem at this stage; he avoids it at all costs.

Oskar Hencke demonstrates great vision in this situation and plays a very good pass in the penalty area from a disadvantageous position.

Still, throughout the season, defenders began to defend him differently.

Oskar Hencke: Putting It Together

Despite his injury struggles, the young winger began to put things together throughout the season and positively impacted his team’s play.

Oskar Hencke scouting report 2025/26: The next big thing out of the Regionalliga Südwest

Here, we examine a situation later in the season.

Kickers tried to play through the right side, but the right-back lost the ball in this situation.

Hencke instantly switches from attacking to defending, anticipates well and moves backwards, intercepting the counterattack at its roots.

Oskar Hencke scouting report 2025/26: The next big thing out of the Regionalliga Südwest

He cuts inside immediately and looks to get his shot off.

As the season progressed, Hencke became increasingly decisive in his attacking play and executed more meaningful actions.

Still, his attacking output is not reflecting that at the moment, which is obviously not unexpected for a player his age, but with only one goal and no assists so far this season, this will be the area where Hencke will need to improve quickly at the next level if he wants to see more playing time.

Still, his impact has increased over the first 20 games of the season, and he has become more important in building up and transitioning attacks.

Especially his play with opponents in his back has improved substantially, enhancing his ball security, and now he is very good at retaining possession.

Bild 14 5

After receiving the ball with his back to the goal, Hencke is now consistently able to get away from thedefender on his first touch.

As shown above, he quickly moves into advantageous positions after receiving the ball and anticipates situations well, enabling him to devise effective solutions.

Hencke often receives the ball and plays another forward pass, allowing him to advance the ball regularly.

Oskar Hencke scouting report 2025/26: The next big thing out of the Regionalliga Südwest

He also massively improved with his actions after passing the ball.

At the youth level and earlier this season, his level of activity was insufficient upon receiving the ball; he often checked out of the situation.

Now, he moves well after receiving the ball; he moves forward with good intensity immediately, giving his teammates more options and space.

On counterattacks, Hencke has performed very well.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Oskar Hencke’s rapid emergence at Stuttgarter Kickers feels less like an isolated breakout and more like the next logical case study in how elite potential can surface outside the professional spotlight.

At such a young age, his ability to internalise tactical demands, execute them with clarity, and still demonstrate his individual quality sets him apart from the wider pool of talent.

This is not merely a question of output, but of repeatable behaviours: scanning before reception, timing movement between lines, and an understanding of when to accelerate or slow the game, all of which are markers of a player already thinking one step ahead.

As previous examples from the Regionalliga Südwest have shown, the leap to professional football is not determined by league status alone, but by adaptability, decision-making speed and tactical intelligence.

In that sense, Hencke appears well-equipped for the next step.

Whether his path leads first to VfB Stuttgart, the DFB setup, or both, his profile suggests a player not merely passing through the system but one capable of reshaping expectations about where top-level talent can truly emerge.
