Real Madrid beat Racing Santander 3-0 in La Liga on Sunday 1 November, settling the matchday 11 meeting at El Sardinero before the interval. Kylian Mbappé converted an 11th-minute penalty, Jude Bellingham added the second and Yan Diomande made it three in the 36th minute.

Racing could not find a way back. Their best chance of a lifeline came in the 72nd minute, when a penalty in their favour involving Iván Martín was cancelled after a VAR review.

Bellingham and Güler drive the first-half blitz

Bellingham’s goal arrived in the 21st minute from an Arda Güler assist. He finished with a match rating of 8.2, the highest on the pitch, having taken four shots and made three key passes. Diomande was close behind on 8.13 before being withdrawn after 85 minutes.

Güler did the creative work. He completed his evening with six key passes and five shots before leaving the field after 67 minutes.

Mbappé’s penalty was his 11th La Liga goal of the season, leaving him second in the scoring charts, four behind Barcelona’s Raphinha. He also had six attempts and four key passes.

Agirrezabala’s five saves keep Racing’s deficit at three

Madrid’s superiority showed in the numbers. They had 22 shots to Racing’s 10, with 7 on target against 1, and generated 3.5 expected goals to 1.23. Julen Agirrezabala made five saves for the hosts, while Thibaut Courtois was called on once. The visitors also had 54% of the ball.

Jeanuël Belocian was booked for a foul in the 34th minute and Iker Luque followed him into the book in first-half stoppage time. Racing’s leading scorer Zabiri, fourth in the league charts with eight goals, could not add to his tally.

Six straight wins leave Madrid six points off Barcelona with a game in hand

Real Madrid are third on 24 points from 10 matches, six behind leaders Barcelona and four behind Atlético Madrid, both of whom have played 11. This was a sixth successive victory in all competitions, a run that includes a 2-1 win over Barcelona and a 4-1 success against RB Leipzig.

Racing are 16th with 11 points from 10 games and a goal difference of -11. They have now gone five league meetings with Real Madrid without a win since October 2010, the most recent before this being a 4-0 defeat at the Bernabéu in February 2012.

Mourinho’s side switch to the Champions League on Wednesday 4 November away to AEK Athens FC. Racing travel to bottom side Malaga, still winless after 11 matches, on Saturday 7 November.
