Diomande sets up Güler and finishes the job
The opening goal came on the half-hour, when Diomande supplied the assist for Güler. Seven minutes later Jude Bellingham laid on the second for Mbappé, and the home side went in at the break with a two-goal cushion.
Both sides had already been warned by Mateo Busquets Ferrer. In the 23rd minute the referee booked Félix Correia and Dean Huijsen for arguing, the first of four yellow cards in the match. Juan Iglesias and Marc Cucurella were also cautioned for fouls in the second half.
Mbappé made it three from the penalty spot in the 63rd minute. Sevilla pulled one back in the 80th, Bueno Sebastián converting after an assist from Lucas Stassin. The lift lasted two minutes. Aurélien Tchouaméni then found Diomande, who restored the three-goal margin in the 82nd minute.
Diomande, who played the full 90 minutes, was rated 9, the highest on the pitch. He took 4 shots and created 1 chance alongside his goal and assist. Güler and Mbappé were both rated 8.2, with Güler providing 3 key passes before he left the field after 78 minutes.
65% possession and 667 passes for Mourinho’s side
Real Madrid controlled the ball for long spells, finishing with 65% possession and 667 passes to Sevilla’s 349. Their accuracy was also far higher, with 605 passes completed against 280. They had 15 shots to 11, put 8 on target to 5 and created chances worth 2.36 expected goals, compared with 0.81 for the visitors.
Sevilla still forced Thibaut Courtois into 4 saves. Odysseas Vlachodimos made 3 at the other end.
The result keeps a one-sided recent fixture firmly in Madrid’s favour. This was a sixth straight league win over Sevilla, following victories of 1-0 in May 2026, 2-0 in December 2025, 2-0 in May 2025, 4-2 in December 2024 and 1-0 in February 2024. Bueno Sebastián’s strike was Sevilla’s first goal against Madrid since 22 December 2024.
Mbappé closes on Raphinha as Madrid sit third
Mbappé’s brace takes him to 9 league goals, second in the scoring chart, three behind Barcelona’s Raphinha on 12. Madrid have now won three in a row in all competitions, after beating AS Roma 4-3 and Villarreal 1-0 before this game.
Real Madrid are third with 21 points from 9 matches. That leaves them one point behind Atletico Madrid and six adrift of unbeaten leaders Barcelona, who have won all 9 of their games. Sevilla are sixth on 14 points with a goal difference of -2, and they are without a win in four matches in all competitions.
Madrid return to Champions League action at home to RB Leipzig on Wednesday 21 October. Sevilla host Osasuna in La Liga on Monday 26 October.
