Brighton 0-1 Arsenal: Super-sub Lacazette inspires Arsenal
The win against Brighton and Hove Albion was only the second time that the Gunners had managed to record two wins in a row for the first time since the start of the season.
Alexandre Lacazette managed to score his third goal in consecutive matches across all competitions, with his latest being the quickest goal scored by an Arsenal substitute. He netted just 29 seconds after replacing Gabriel Martinelli from the bench.
Arsenal also managed to keep their fourth away clean sheet of the season, a feat that only Aston Villa better – thanks to former Gunners ‘keeper, Emiliano Martinez.
Brighton ended the 2020 calendar year with just one home win in the Premier League from 17 played; the lowest by any side in the competition ever.
Burnley 1-0 Sheff Utd: Blades equal unwanted record
The Blades’ 16-match winless streak to begin the season is the joint-worst in the competition’s history, equalling the record set by QPR in 2012-13.
Oliver Burke has played in 10 of those games. The winger has not ended on the winning side in any of his first 25 Premier League appearances, seeing him surpass Gareth Bale (24) for the longest winless start for a player in the competition.
Burnley skipper. Ben Mee’s winner, was the first Premier League goal he has managed to score at Turf Moor in 76 matches since January 2015, whilst the Clarets’ win was the first time they have managed to record successive home Premier League wins since October 2019.
Southampton 0-0 West Ham: Successive stalemates for shot-shy Saints
Danny Ings had a game to forget, as he failed to touch the ball in West Ham United’s penalty box all game. This was the first time in 54 full top-flight matches it had happened to him.
Craig Dawson became the oldest English outfield player to make his Premier League debut for the Hammers in the match, aged 30 years and 237 days.
West Brom 0-5 Leeds: Baggies blitzed by Bielsa’s boys
Romaine Sawyers’ own goal made him the seventh WBA player to score an own goal since the start of the 2019/20 season. Only Southend United have equalled that total in the same period.
Leeds’ 4-0 half-time lead was the first time they had managed to achieve that in the Premier League since their 2001 win against Bradford City.
Goals are the aim of the game and the Whites have not had any issues as they became the side to score the second-most goals for a newly promoted side after 16 matches (30), with Newcastle’s 31 in 1993/94 just out of touch.
Man United 1-0 Wolves: Solskjaer’s men leave it late
Marcus Rashford’s 92:51 winning goal was the latest Manchester United have scored a winner at Old Trafford in the Premier League since 2009, beating Michael Owen’s 95:27 winner against Manchester City.
It was also the England international’s first goal on home soil for 845 minutes (since July).
