Graham Potter has had a great start to life at Chelsea since taking over, although there is no doubt that it could still have been better.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager is currently unbeaten in the eight games that he has taken charge of since his arrival, having won five of those to have been played. However, perhaps it is worth noting that he has a player in his ranks that might be a lucky charm.
Now, at the risk of putting a curse on him like a commentator, Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah is a player who is yet to taste defeat as a Blue himself; that is when he starts a match for the club. Information like this is perhaps something that those who like to place wagers on the club and utilize the betting bonuses that can be found may already be known, or may provide them with a world of difference moving forward.
Chalobah continued his impressive record at the weekend when Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, after Casemiro’s header was able to beat the continually impressive Kepa Arrizabalaga, thus stopping a sixth clean sheet in a row under Potter and the Spaniard between the sticks.
The English defender has made 30 senior starts for the club since breaking into the team, and he is yet to lose in any of those games. He has recorded a total of 21 wins, and nine draws.
Given that he is 23 years old, there may be some that will be wondering whether he has played a role in that, or whether he – and Chelsea – have simply been lucky when he has been on the pitch. Nonetheless, those that have watched the Blues closely this season will know that he has been exceptional when on the pitch and is proving that he belongs among the likes of Thiago Silva, Cesar Azpilicueta, Kalidou Koulibaly, Marc Cucurella, and Wesley Fofana for a place in the centre of the defence.
Chalobah has had to bide his time to get his chance at Stamford Bridge – a place historically where he may have felt he would not get an opportunity despite coming through the youth system as his brother Nathaniel perhaps found out – and he has subsequently impressed since doing so, grabbing it with two hands.
Perhaps talk of a place in the England squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup may be a little wide of the mark at the moment, but if he continues to play well, he might be one of the first names for the England boss – whoever that might be – especially if Chelsea can remain unbeaten when he starts…
