The 2024/25 Premier League season is approaching its most important period.
The table’s appearance at the end of the season is mostly based on what happens between the beginning of December and the end of January/mid-February.
A lot of movement is possible during this period, so the upcoming couple of months will be as crucial as ever.
Much of that movement also depends on how the teams have fared so far and what changes they’re set to make to their approach.
One of those changes will be for teams to analyse how often they find the back of the net and when they actually do so during those games.
The visualisation below shows the number of goals scored by each team in the first and second half.
Tottenham scored the most goals (23) in the league and scored more than 50% of their goals (14) in the second half, which is also more than any other team.
Spurs have been slow starters and have quite often had to come from behind to win games this season.
While Brentford have been a very good starter this season so far, Manchester City have also been a good starter, and the two teams have scored the most goals (14) in the first half.
Southampton, who have scored the fewest goals in the league, are slow starters—scoring only three goals in the first half.
The south coast club also did not thrive after half-time, scoring just four goals in the second half—joint-fewest with Ipswich Town.
Crystal Palace have scored the fewest goals in the first half (two).
Manchester United are joint-third from bottom for goals scored (four) in the first half.
Arsenal and Chelsea have scored more goals in the second half, although only by a small margin, than in the first half.
League leaders Liverpool, who like to control the game after taking the lead, have followed that plan, scoring one more goal in the first half (11) than they have in the second half (10).
