Serge Gnabry 42'
Michael Olise 90+5'
Bayern München beat SC Freiburg 3-1 on Sunday 25 October in round 7 of the Bundesliga. Dayot Upamecano and Serge Gnabry scored in the first half, and Michael Olise added the third in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Tom Bischof had turned the ball into his own net.
Olise was rated 9, the highest on the pitch. He set up the opener, scored the last goal and created 5 chances in his 90 minutes.
Upamecano and Gnabry give Kompany’s side a half-time cushion
Freiburg fell behind after 16 minutes. Upamecano scored from Olise’s assist, his first contribution of a strong afternoon that earned him a rating of 7.83.
Freiburg’s discipline was tested early. Lucas Höler was booked for a foul in the 25th minute, and referee Felix Zwayer later showed yellow cards to Jan-Niklas Beste and Maximilian Eggestein.
Bayern doubled their lead three minutes before the interval. Nathaniel Brown provided the assist and Gnabry finished the move. Gnabry played 61 minutes and was rated 7.87.
Bischof own goal gives Freiburg hope before Olise settles it
Freiburg were still two down when Jonathan Tah was booked on 65 minutes, and they did not get on the scoresheet until the 82nd. The goal came from Bischof, the Bayern midfielder, who put through his own net.
The home side could not find an equaliser. Olise’s goal deep into stoppage time finished the contest and took him to 6 league goals this season, second in the Bundesliga scoring charts behind Werder Bremen’s Füllkrug on 8.
The numbers favoured the visitors. Bayern had 56% of the ball, completed 442 of their 523 passes and put 9 shots on target to Freiburg’s 4. Their expected goals figure of 2.96 compared with 1.08 for the hosts, with Freiburg attempting 16 shots to Bayern’s 17. Backhaus made 6 saves in the Freiburg goal, and Urbig made 4 at the other end.
Bayern top on goal difference as Freiburg slip to a third straight defeat
Bayern are first with 17 points from 7 games, 5 wins and 2 draws. Borussia Dortmund have the same record, but Bayern’s goal difference of 19 is far better than Dortmund’s 8.
Freiburg are third on 13 points, level with Bayer Leverkusen. This was their third defeat in a row in all competitions, following a 0-3 loss to Monaco and a 1-2 defeat by Leverkusen.
The fixture has brought little joy for Freiburg recently. Bayern won the previous four meetings, including a 3-2 win at Freiburg on 4 April 2026, so this was their fifth victory in a row in the fixture. Kompany’s side are now unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions.
Both clubs are back at home in the DFB Pokal on Wednesday 28 October. Freiburg host VfL Wolfsburg and Bayern welcome 1. FC Magdeburg.
