Campaign Stats: Who are the Premier League’s assist kings this season?

As the Premier League season enters its final throes, it’s a good time to have a look at how some of the player statistics are shaping up. Of course, one of the most crucial stats is assists, as it demonstrates the effect a player is having on their team in terms of creating chances and contributing to goals.

There are a number of players that have excelled on the assists front this season. Read on, as we go through the top five assist makers of the current Premier League season so far.

Harry Kane – 13

In a strange quirk, Harry Kane leads both the scoring charts and assist charts at the time of writing, but that is proof of his value to Tottenham Hotspur. The England captain continues to produce the goods year after year for the north London side, and this season has been no different, proving he has the ability to pick out teammates as well as finishing moves off.

The departure of José Mourinho was rumoured to be part of a plan to ensure Kane stays at Tottenham this summer, and if the 27-year-old keeps up his good form then Spurs could well clamber back into the top four under the stewardship of Ryan Mason.

Bruno Fernandes – 11

Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes has been a revelation for Manchester United since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020. He has provided the creativity in attacking areas that United sorely lacked prior to his arrival, and his ability to pick out assists and find the net himself has left many rival clubs ruing the fact that they did not acquire Fernandes’ signature. His form has certainly improved Manchester United’s chances in the Premier League odds throughout the season.

Kevin De Bruyne – 11

Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne is a man who needs no introductions. His ability to perform at the highest level season after season, despite frequent injury struggles, is a testament to both his skill and his dedication to City’s cause. It’s been another good season on the assists front for the Belgian, with 11 to his name so far in this campaign. With the Premier League title looking set to head City’s way once again, De Bruyne must take a lot of the plaudits for his ability to set up goals.

Jack Grealish – 10

Many thought Dean Smith’s Aston Villa would be among the favourites in the Premier League relegation odds this season, but they have been much improved, and that is largely down to the inspired form of Jack Grealish. Now a regular in the England setup, Grealish’s silky skills have helped Villa become a much more dangerous attacking outfit, and his unpredictability makes him a nightmare prospect for opposition defenders. 10 assists represent a strong season so far from the Villa captain.

Son Heung-Min – 9

While Kane rightfully takes the plaudits at Spurs, his partnership with Son Heung-Min cannot be underestimated. The Korean has been similarly excellent in what has been a bleak campaign overall for Tottenham, and nine assists show that he is just as willing to put the ball on a plate for his teammates as he is to get on the scoresheet himself. He is another player who the club will be desperate to hang onto this summer.
