Since the start of April, Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane has been the subject of transfer speculation. The England national team forward even admitted to plans of reviewing his future over the summer. Rumours claim that Kane is unhappy with his lack of trophies at Hotspur Stadium and the notion that his team will likely not participate in next season’s Champions League.
Recently, Alan Shearer publicly advised Kane to use his club’s current predicament as an excuse to seek greener pastures. Roy Keane, Dimitar Berbatov, and Frank Leboeuf agree with the legendary striker’s sentiments. Now, multiple publications claim that Kane’s exit is pretty much a done deal. According to sports betting sites, the favourites for acquiring HurriKane’s signature are Real Madrid and the two Manchester clubs.
It is worth noting that Kane is under contract with Tottenham until 2024, and management claims that they will reject any offers for him that come to their doorstep. However, missing out on the Champions League will likely deliver a crushing blow to the Spur’s bottom line, and it paired with Kane’s unhappiness could be the formula that leads him out of London. Many fans believe that much is a foregone conclusion and are fearful that there will be a club exodus if Kane departs.
What Players Will Most Likely Follow Kane?
Per March reports, as many as ten Tottenham players already got pencilled in to leave the club even before rumours started flying of a Kane exit. Management suffered massive losses due to the ongoing global pandemic, and they already made decisions to free up locker room space at the beginning of the year. The list of ten players who will likely depart at the end of the season does not include Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius, who will not be part of the team in July. Hugo Lloris was also not mentioned despite his iffy contract status.
Those rumoured to leave are Dele Alli, Harry Winks, Danny Rose, Serge Aurier, Erik Lamela, Moussa Sissoko, Juan Foyth, Carter-Vickers, Lucas Moura, and one centre-back. The latter may be Davinson Sanchez, who has been struggling in the Premier League this year.
Hugo Lloris and Serge Aurier got featured quite prominently under Mourinho and are super likely to be the first in the firing line ahead of the next transfer window. Fans do not seem overly disappointed about these potential departures if it means that Son Heung-min and Tanguy Ndombele will stay at the club.
Did the Sacking of Jose Mourinho Affect Player Morale?
There is no doubt that Spurs’ morale is at an all-time low. Nevertheless, opinions on the sacking of The Great One remain split. Rumblings from inside the club say that some players were upset at the Portuguese manager for continuously questioning their ability and were happy to see him leave. That said, his biggest supporters included Kane, Son, Lloris, Reguilon, and Hojbjerg. Therefore, given the status of some of these names, Jose’s firing certainly spurred dissatisfaction that will lead to a few transfers.
