After a swashbuckling season, Chelsea managed to capture the Premier League title – their first in fifty years. Frank Lampard wrapped up the title when he scored against Bolton. This goal has gone down in Chelsea’s history. As John Terry lifted the Premier League trophy, a new footballing order was unfolding. This period was the start of a new age of Chelsea dominance unfolding within English and European football.
Chelsea’s First League and Cup Double
It was Carlo Ancelotti who led Chelsea to their first-ever double in the 2009-2010 season. They Blitz their way to the league and completed the campaign with the FA Cup when they defeated Portsmouth in the final. Winning the Champions League
For the first time in their history, Chelsea were champions of Europe. After an epic semi-final against Barcelona to set up a final with Bayern Munich. Chelsea traveled to Munich with a depleted squad due to injuries and suspensions. The West London side was completely up against it. Bayern scored late on, only for Didier Drogba to equalize minutes later to take the game to penalties. Chelsea won the shootout to become the Kings of Europe.
