The implementation of the European Super League will change football forever, although the league was disbanded before it could even begin, it shows the power and authority the big teams can have if they desire to make a change in the sport. The Super League was meant to consist of 12 European heavyweights: Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan.
The whole idea was to make a league which made more money and was purely a financial decision and greed of owners prevailed into trying to make football and the clubs into franchises like the American sports. Florentino Perez, Real Madrid president, was the orchestrater behind the idea which failed in 2 days due to the amount of uproar from the fans who were disgusted by the decision by their clubs and protested against the idea and saw the teams fall one by one the first being Chelsea and Manchester City. Clubs have been left to apologise to their fans who reacted disgustingly to the idea as it was based on money and greed for the owners.
UEFA and FIFA were completely blind to the movement and when found out they felt completely backstabbed and were fuming at the decisions made by the clubs. UEFA were threatening massive consequences for players and clubs including removal from competitions like the champions league, removal from leagues, point deductions and disqualification for any player at international level for any player who participated in the European Super League.
This was obviously a huge worry to managers and players who publicly came out and criticised the idea which set the tone from the start, that this was wrong and the players who were the ones to participate were completely against the idea. Teams in the respective leagues of the 12 teams who accepted into the Super League turned against the teams and alienated them and treated them as traitors to the beautiful game.
The league may be disbanded and not happening but that does not take away the fact that these owners tried to change the game and benefit financially and take away people’s love for the game and change the sport to completely ignore the fans and treat them as they do not matter, that will stick with them and they will remember this and many people in power at clubs may be pushed out at fans from the disgust of what they tried to do. Fans were not given a say and were treated as nothing, football fans can have their own say with Squawka’s football accumulator tips for the best betting tips around.
Football is nothing without the fans and that has been displayed everywhere in the last 2 days, the message was especially pushed through Leeds and Brighton players wearing custom t-shirts to warm up in with ‘champions league earn it’ and ‘football is nothing without the fans’ so you can see the uproar came from other clubs along with fans worldwide as it would completely change the game and the clubs that fans have grown up to love and have become their lives. Football is nothing without the fans and the greed and power-hungry actions performed by the owners in the last 2 days has seen football fans come together for the best of the beautiful game.
