Whilst the 2020 UEFA European Championships has only just reached the quarter-finals stage of the competition, there has already been plenty to shout about.
Unfortunately for a competition that has the reputation that it does, the Group Stage could have been argued to be rather boring at times and one that would be able to send those with insomnia on a deep 8 hour sleep at times, with some teams playing as if they were in the early stages of a boxing contest and just feeling each other out before running out of time to land the vital punch.
Finland would have entered the competition without much expectation, but those who use sports betting sites in Finland such as suomiveikkaus.com will have been pleased with what they saw as they managed to put in a reasonable showing.
Of course, the UEFA 2020 European Championships burst into life in the knockout rounds, with the Round of 16 featuring plenty of excitement, as well as shocks.
France’s exit to Switzerland on penalties and the Czech Republic’s win against Italy were huge surprises, whilst Spain’s extra-time victory over Croatia arguably provided fans with some of the best football since the tournament started, whilst England fans will continue to sing “It’s Coming Home” after beating Germany for the first time in a knockout match since 1966.
In fact, speaking of falling records, there have been a number that have been toppled at Euro 2020 this summer, with some being rather impressive considering that there are still a number of games to be played.
One of the biggest records to have been broken is the fact that there have been more goals scored at this edition of the tournament than there have been scored at any other. After the final round of Round of 16 games were played, there have been a total of 118 goals to have been scored so far in this tournament in just 42 games to have been played; who said the UEFA 2020 European Championships were boring?!
The fact more teams are competing will likely have helped, but more goals is better for fans, right?
In addition, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal might be out of the competition, but that did not stop the superstar from breaking and making another 5 records for himself.
CR7 has scored the most goals at the tournament (14), played in the most Euro Championships (5), had the most wins (12), netted the most doubles in the history of the competition (4) and scored the most penalties in the tournament (3).
Oh, let’s not forget he has equalled Ali Daei’s record for the most international goals when he netted twice against France and putting him on 109 goals so far; unfortunately, he forgot to turn up against Belgium and break that record.
