Football with Milan Rabszski: What Are the Chances?

Portugal’s chances in the 2022 World Cup

Fussball International 11.07.2022 FIFA, Uebergrossser Adidas WM Ball 2022 Al Rihla mit Regenbogen am Home of FIFA in Zuerich *** Football International 11 07 2022 FIFA, Oversized Adidas World Cup Ball 2022 Al Rihla with Rainbow at the Home of FIFA in Zuerich

Milan Rabszski may be a casino games expert today, but growing up, he watched his parents enjoy a good game of football with a cold glass of Zywiec Porter in hand. His father raved about the legend, Włodzimierz Lubański, a Polish football forward, and watched his matches live in the stadium. Growing up with these stories, Rabszski, too, wants to watch a match in person! As an ardent lover of the game and players like Zbigniew Boniek and Grzegorz Lato, Milan is set to watch his favorite team play against Mexico in Qatar at the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Meeting the Team

Milan decides watching the team play from the stands is not going to cut the mark. So, the next best thing to do is to crash the locker room! Thankfully, a pre-arranged meeting with coach Czesław Michniewicz helped Mr. Rabszski meet the team and understand what goes on behind the scenes in a football tournament this big.

Does Lady Luck Take a Stroll through the Boys’ Room?

The players feel that luck certainly plays a role in their games. Players, in general, are a highly superstitious bunch, and you can often see them wearing their lucky underpants on big game nights.

There are a lot of moving pieces on the field. Literally and metaphorically. With 22 players, each doing their own thing, the coaches constantly strategizing from the sidelines, the referee running circles, and the biggest of all, the audience’s energy.

Do Footballers Get Ninja Trained?

In a way, yes! Skills, individual and combined, make the team. The players train day in and day out to be able to represent their country. This honor doesn’t come easy, and neither is it a small one. However, unlike ninjas, who work independently, footballers need to be part of a team. So, they train as a team.

It doesn’t matter how good you are as a player; if you can’t be a team player, you’re not welcome. And if the team is very capable but the players have no chemistry among themselves, that is a disaster.

So Where Does Chance Come into Play?

As mentioned, there are a lot of variables involved. The players can be on top of their game, but various factors will affect their performance on the field.

Feelings and Emotions

Usually, players make sure they stay isolated during these big tournaments to stay focused. There could be familial disputes on their mind, the fact that they may be missing their daughter’s first dance recital, or something more emotionally draining. These emotions have no role on the field. The audience will go wild if their favorite player scores and dedicates it to their father, but they will not excuse bad performance for any reason.

Another reason to stay away from the internet and socializing, in general, is the trolls. Sure, the players have fans who send them love all the time, but there are those internet vigilantes who are relentless with their trolling. It becomes worse when one of them is a journalist who writes a scathing piece about the player or the team in the newspapers.

At the end of it all, it differs from player to player in how they embrace this love and hate aimed at them. Some might brush off the hate, but others might take it too seriously. If this pushes them to be better players on the field, it’s a win-win! But if that’s not the case, the entire team may be in trouble, and they’ve come too far to deal with an internal obstacle.

The Decisions

We’re moving away from the players to discuss the coaches and the referees for a minute. The match looks different when you’re watching it from the sidelines. The players will have a narrow perspective, while the coaches need a bird’s eye view. Any decision the coach makes, be it to substitute a player or to change tactics mid-game, plays a vital role in the outcome.

You have four fingers and a thumb on each hand, and none of them are alike. Imagine controlling 11 pieces on the field while 22 players are on it. It’s practically a game of chess! Similar burdens apply to being a referee. Their perspective is wider than that of the player, but they’re still on the field, and there is only so much they can see.

The Audience

Playing on home turf is always easier than an away match. You know the pitch like you know the streets you grew up in, but way pitches are always alien despite practice. But that’s just a part of the problem. The audience you face during a match is a giant variable deciding your luck. Some fans are known to hype up their team. It’s all they might need for a comeback!

Is the team trailing by a goal, and there are only three minutes left on the clock? Watch as their spirits lift into attack mode as their supporters sing their team anthem.

The same goes both ways, the team’s striker may be facing a penalty, and it is easy to miss it because the opponent’s fans are booing them to oblivion. It may seem like a small, invisible force, but that’s what gets their morale up or down.

In Conclusion

Much like taking an exam, you could study the entire book, but if a question is outside of the curriculum, you have to think on your feet. It’s no different for the players. They could be the best in the world, but if lady luck has other plans, she has other plans.
