With the transfer window in Europe slamming shut, most managers in the likes of La Liga, the English Premier League, Ligue 1 and Serie A will have to make do with the squads they have, at least until the January transfer window opens.
This means that the USA’s best football exports are well aware of the fates that await them this term, with many playing at some of the top tables in European soccer. Here we take a look at the seasons that lie ahead for the likes of US national team regulars as well as some young guns who are ready to make names for themselves.
Christian Pulisic – Chelsea
The mercurial talent that is Christian Pulisic is now counted as one of the elite level players in the world, having become a Champions League winner and the first-ever American to compete in a Champions League final.
He then upset the odds and betting tipsters again by leading Team USA to a famous victory in the Concacaf Nations League. This attacking midfielder is still part of that same Chelsea side he had so much success with last season and indeed 21/22 promises to be even more exciting for the American as betting experts are already tipping the Blues for more glory. That is because Thomas Tuchel has been heavily backed by Chelsea supremo Román Abramóvich in the transfer market, meaning he has signed Romelu Lukaku – a player whose arrival at Stamford Bridge will have had fans making the most of their Unibet promo codes to back him to win the Premier League’s golden boot award. Pulisic will form part of a group of attacking players which will throng around the Belgian powerhouse, alongside the likes of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
This means there is stiff competition for places and Pulisic will be hoping to stay injury-free so that he can maintain a starting role and deliver goals and assists for those fans who bet on the Blues to succeed this season.
Sergino Dest – Barcelona
There was early transfer window interest in this pacey wingback but rather than searching for greener fields away from the Nou Camp, Sergino Dest decided to stay on in the Catalan capital and fight for his place in a team busy rebuilding itself post-Lionel Messi.
Staying in Barcelona appears to have been a masterstroke, because not only has he started two early season games for the 1st team, but he also looks to have been bumped up the pecking order by virtue of rival fullback Emerson Royal leaving for Tottenham Hotspur. With Dest able to learn from the likes of Jordi Alba and Gerard Pique, expect this US player to come on leaps and bounds this season.
Tyler Adams – RB Leipzig
At the age of just 22, Tyler Adams has become a mainstay of the German Bundesliga, cementing his place in the RB Leipzig midfield and helping the team recover after the sale of Timo Werner to Chelsea. Nothing appears set to change that this season, and Adams and co. will be rewarded for their progress by facing Man City and Messi’s PSG in the Champions League group stages.
Who knows, if Adams can shine against the best teams in Europe, on the club game’s biggest stage, perhaps next season he could find himself strutting his stuff at the Etihad Stadium or the Parque de los Príncipes.
Giovanni Reyna – Borussia Dortmund
Watching Reyna and his fellow attacking players combine at Borussia Dortmund is a pure joy to behold with the team spirit they exhibit keeping desirable players at the club like Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham.
Reyna is very much a part of that exciting young group, and his side will expect to mount a serious title challenge in the Bundesliga this season.
