The 2019/20 Premier League campaign was a funny-old season and was one that will likely be remembered for a variety of different things. For instance, the campaign took 11 months to come to its conclusion after matches were finally completed in July.
The season will also, though, be remembered for many positive moments that happened on the pitch as well, with the likes of Liverpool coasting to the League title, whilst Sheffield United caused a few eyebrows to be raised, which will likely give those looking for football betting sites something to think about when placing wagers in the future.
With the 2019/20 Premier League campaign now confined to the history books, now would be a perfect time to take a look at each side and re-cap how their season went and what they will need to do in the upcoming 2020/21 edition to improve upon things.
Liverpool
The Reds finally ended their long wait of a Premier League title as they lifted the trophy for the first time in 30 years, having gone incredibly close the previous year. Top performances from everyone in Jurgen Klopp’s squad made them deserving champions.
Manchester City
The Citizens had a wobble at times and it cost Pep Guardiola’s side dearly in their pursuit of the title. An argument could be made regarding their inability to replace Vincent Kompany and it seems City are looking to rectify that already with the supposed addition of Nathan Ake.
Manchester United
Having looked down and out at one point, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to bring in Bruno Fernandes in January certainly paid dividends. The Portugal international was highly influential for the Red Devils and if he can continue that form over the course of a full season, Manchester United could be closer to the title than some would like to admit.
Chelsea
Frank Lampard’s first season in charge of his former club could not have gone much better, as he guided the Blues to a top-four spot without having the ability to spend. He introduced a number of youth prospects into the team and with the additions of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, as well as the possibility of Kai Havertz as well, things are looking scarily good – although that defence and goalkeeper positions need looking at.
Leicester City
Leicester City were on fire for the first part of the season and if there were a team that did not need the restart, it appeared to be the Foxes as they struggled and crumbled. Brendan Rodgers would have been disappointed with how things finished but European football remains on the schedule.
Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs managed to obtain sixth after a rather poor campaign in which Mauricio Pochettino was sacked and immediately replaced by Jose Mourinho. Nevertheless, Europa League football is on the schedule, although that would have been a bare minimum at one point in the season.
Wolves
Nuno Espirito Santo continues to win plaudits for the way his side play their football and Raul Jimenez continues to thrive for the Old Gold. Matching last season’s finish of seventh this year, the Molineux outfit have shown some consistency and will be determined to go up another level in 2020/21.
Arsenal
Considering Mikel Arteta was brought in to replace Unai Emery, things went a little better for the Gunners as an eighth-place finish was their worst for 25 years. The FA Cup win will have softened the poor showings, however expectations will be that the club compete for European football via league standings.
Sheffield United
Perhaps the most surprising story of the 2019/20 Premier League campaign, Sheffield United finished 9th and completely confounded every single prediction that would have been made about them at the start of the season. The Blades had Chris Wilder to thank as they looked to be challenging for continental football at one point. If next season is the same, it will have to be considered just as good.
Burnley
Rounding out the top 10 were Burnley in what was a solid campaign for the Clarets. Considering Sean Dyche’s men finished 15th the year before and flirted with relegation, the 2019/20 season was a solid showing and one the club will want to build on.
