How To Allocate FPL Chip Usage?
During your 2024 FPL campaign, you will have the opportunity to make use of 4 different chips.
These chips are a critical part of any FPL manager’s game plan.
When utilizing these chips, the Premier League weekend gets 10 times more exciting.
Knowing when and how to use these chips can define your entire season.
Let’s take a look at these 4 chips in Fantasy Premier League :
1) Bench Boost
During your FPL season, you will have the opportunity to use your Bench Boost only once.
The significance of the Bench Boost is simple: once during the season, you can choose a specific match to activate it.
This will allow you to gather points not only from your starting 11 but also from all four substitutes on your bench.
A general “rule” for using your Bench Boost is only to play it when every player in your 15-man squad is fit, and all 15 players have a somewhat favourable fixture ahead.
Many FPL managers wait for double-game weeks to play their Bench Boost, which allows them to generate even more points when activating this chip.
2) Free Hit
Every FPL manager will have the opportunity to play their Free Hit once a season.
The Free Hit allows a manager to remove their entire team and replace it with a completely new team.
All 15 players are transferred out without losing any points for exceeding your available free transfers.
Sounds great, right?
There is one catch.
The new team you select by activating your Free Hit is only valid for one match week.
After the match week is over, all 15 players are removed from your squad, and you receive your initial squad back for the upcoming match weeks.
The Free Hit is usually activated when FPL managers face difficult fixtures for a specific match week but do not wish to permanently remove a large number of players due to good fixtures in the following weeks.
3) Triple Captain
It is the most exciting chip of all the chips.
Once per season, an FPL manager can choose to activate their Triple Captain chip.
This chip allows the captain to receive triple their points instead of the double points they usually receive on other match weeks.
FPL managers usually activate this option when the captain has a double match week ahead, and both fixtures look highly favourable for the captain.
Some FPL managers opt not to wait for double-game weeks and instead use the chip when their captain is on red-hot form and facing a team battling relegation.
4) Wildcards
Playing your FPL Wildcard has the power to change your fortunes during a Fantasy Premier League campaign completely.
During the season, FPL managers will have the opportunity to play their Wildcard twice.
You receive one Wildcard at the beginning of the campaign and a second once the Premier League season reaches its midway mark.
By activating your Wildcard, you can completely overhaul your team without suffering a point loss due to exceeding your available free transfers.
Once you have done this, your new squad will be your current squad, unlike the Free Hit chip.
FPL managers often play their first Wildcard early in the season as more information regarding the Premier League’s starting 11s becomes available.
The second Wildcard is often used to include new Premier League arrivals after the winter transfer window closes or to remove players who were sold during this window.
An accumulation of unexpected injuries is also often the reason some managers are forced to play their Wildcard.
5) Mystery Chip (An Unexpected 5th Chip)
FPL managers were baffled when they heard that the 2024/25 campaign would introduce a new mystery chip.
So far, we have no clue what this Mystery Chip will offer, but it certainly has many FPL managers excited.
The official FPL website has only given us one piece of information: “What will it do? You’ll have to wait and see! All will be revealed before January 2025 so that you can plan ahead before the chip becomes playable in January.”

While it may be difficult to control your frustrations after a disappointing start to the new FPL campaign, it is crucial to remember that this is a marathon, not a race.
You still have plenty of time to improve your current points tally, and by consuming FPL content, you will quickly come to grips with FPL strategies and how to better your current standing.
The most important thing to note is that this is a game, and its sole purpose is for you to have fun!
