Ten-man Tottenham snatched a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Saturday, with Dominic Solanke equalising in the 90+2nd minute to cancel out Bryan Mbeumo’s opener in matchweek 6 of the Premier League. Manchester United had led from the 73rd minute and played the final stages against ten men, yet still dropped two points.
Mbeumo breaks the deadlock before Bentancur’s red card
A goalless first half gave way to a tense second period. Conor Gallagher had been booked as early as the 4th minute, but the decisive moments came late.
Bryan Mbeumo struck in the 73rd minute, set up by Matheus Cunha. The goal earned him a match rating of 8.08, the highest on the pitch, from his 2 shots and 1 key pass.
Five minutes later the game turned. Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for violent conduct in the 78th minute, and the same flashpoint brought yellow cards for Jan Paul van Hecke and Luke Shaw. Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martínez were also booked before full time, as Stuart Attwell showed 7 yellows and 1 red in total.
Solanke and Tonali punish United in stoppage time
Down to ten, Tottenham still found a way back. Sandro Tonali provided the assist and Solanke finished in the 90+2nd minute. It was no fluke.
Tottenham generated 1.68 expected goals to United’s 0.88 and held 55% of the ball. Both sides took 12 shots, but Solanke alone had 4 of them and was rated 7.61, just behind Tonali on 7.7. Harry Maguire, rated 7.5, had 3 attempts for the hosts. Diogo Dalot and Archie Gray picked up late bookings as the match finished level.
This was a second draw in three league meetings between the clubs, following the 2-2 at Tottenham in November 2025 and United’s 2-0 home win in February 2026.
Tottenham 18th and still without a league win
The point leaves Tottenham 18th with 3 points from 6 games, a record of 0-3-3 and a goal difference of -6. Across all competitions they have now gone six matches without a win, with three draws and three defeats in that run.
United sit 12th on 6 points with a goal difference of 0, 9 points behind leaders Manchester City. Michael Carrick’s side are winless in four in all competitions, drawing 1-1 with Fulham before this and losing to Brighton and Manchester City prior to that.
United’s attention now turns to Europe, with a trip to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday 13 October. Tottenham return to league action at home to Coventry on Monday 19 October, a meeting with the side directly below them in 19th, also on 3 points.
