Martín Satriano’s 56th-minute equaliser earned Getafe a point on Monday night, cancelling out Álvaro García’s early opener for Rayo Vallecano. Getafe did it a man down. Dakonam Ortega Djené was sent off in the 28th minute, only 12 minutes after he was booked for handball.
The visitors had 68% of the ball and 21 shots to Getafe’s 12. They could not turn that dominance into a second goal, and Pepe Bordalás’s side have now gone six meetings without beating their Madrid neighbours.
Álvaro García strikes before Dakonam Ortega Djené’s red card
The evening began badly for the hosts. Kiko Femenía was shown a yellow card in the first minute, and Rayo were ahead by the 11th. Jorge de Frutos provided the assist and Álvaro García finished, the forward later rated 7.86 before leaving after 80 minutes.
Getafe’s discipline then unravelled further. Dakonam Ortega Djené’s booking in the 16th minute was followed by a red card 12 minutes later, leaving Getafe to play out more than an hour with ten men. Beñat San José’s side went in 1-0 up at the break, with Ivan Balliu booked in first-half stoppage time.
Satriano finishes Serrano Gracia’s pass for the equaliser
The leveller came against the run of the numbers. Francho Serrano Gracia, booked in the 51st minute, set up Satriano five minutes later. It was his side’s moment of the match. Satriano finished with a rating of 8.2, the highest on the pitch, after 4 shots and 2 key passes in his 90 minutes.
From there, Getafe dug in, and the bookings mounted. Daniel Carvajal, Enes Ünal and Nemanja Gudelj were all cautioned between the 79th and 87th minutes, taking the home tally to 6 yellow cards. Pathé Ciss and Sergio Camello were also booked for Rayo, Camello in the third minute of stoppage time.
The statistical gap was stark. Rayo completed 521 accurate passes from 581, against 181 from 254 for the hosts, and generated expected goals of 2.26 to Getafe’s 0.61. Yet only 5 of their 21 attempts were on target, and Getafe made 4 saves. Camello, fourth in the La Liga scoring charts with 7 goals, drew a blank.
Rayo 13th and Getafe 14th, level on 9 points
The draw leaves the two clubs side by side. Rayo are 13th with 9 points from 8 games and a goal difference of minus 5, while Getafe are 14th, also on 9 points but from 9 matches, with a goal difference of minus 6. Rayo therefore hold a game in hand on their hosts.
Both sides are drawing more than winning. Getafe have taken two 1-1 draws in a row, after one against Universitatea Craiova, and have won once in their last four. Rayo are unbeaten in three in all competitions, following a 1-1 draw with Osasuna and a 2-1 win over Espanyol.
The recent history also favours Rayo. Getafe’s last five meetings with them before this one brought two defeats and three draws, including a 2-0 home loss on 3 May 2026.
Getafe turn to European football next, hosting FC Lugano in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday 22 October. Rayo stay in La Liga and welcome 18th-placed Elche, who have 7 points, on Saturday 24 October.
