EURO 2020 analytics: Sweden vs Slovakia – download our report

Sweden faced Slovakia in St Petersburg on the second matchday for Group E in EURO 2020. The Swedes had drawn 0-0 with Spain in their first match, despite having only around 15% possession – they managed to keep Spain out and had a couple of big chances of their own to score. Slovakia, on the other hand, came away with a 2-1 win over Poland at the same venue, with a Wojciech Szczęsny own goal and a fantastic strike from Milan Skriniar giving them all three points. This was a pretty cagey game, with both teams reluctant to commit too many men forward, and resulted in a goalless first half during which clear-cut chances were at a premium. On the first occasion that Sweden managed to get in behind the Slovakian defence, Robin Quaison won a penalty which was cooly converted by Emil Forsberg, and Sweden were able to hang on to condemn Slovakia to their first defeat in six matches.
