Leveraging AI in Sports Betting: Trends, Strategies, and Future Prospects

Artificial intelligence has already become a part of many industries, and in the years to come, it will be implemented in many others, especially as the tech gets better and finds new uses.  Sports betting was one of the first industries to implement AI, and has profoundly impacted the industry.

This article will outline how AI is already used for sports betting, what strategies the betting establishments are exploring to implement it, and what the future of AI is in online betting.

AI: The Numbers

The statistics show that AI is already in use relatively widely and that many companies are looking for ways to use AI in their day-to-day operations.  This goes for businesses in all industries and in all sizes.

  • 22% of firms are aggressively pursuing the integration of AI across a wide variety of technology products and business workflows.
  • 33% of firms are engaging in limited implementation of AI.
  • 45% of firms are still in the exploration phase.

Forbes cites the global AI market size as valued at $136.55 billion in 2022.  NextMSC posts the global AI market size as worth approximately $207.9 billion in 2023.

How is AI used?

Research was also done on how AI is used in most businesses.  The answers are similar across all industries and are mostly about improving the services that the companies are already providing.  That’s partly because no one can predict how AI will develop and what new services it can produce.

  • 56% are using AI to improve and perfect business operations.
  • 51% are turning to AI to help with cybersecurity and fraud management.
  • 47% harness AI tools in the form of digital personal assistants.
  • 46% are using AI for customer relationship management.

How is the Sports Betting Industry Using AI?

The sports betting industry has always been among the first to adopt new technologies.  It’s a very competitive field.  Using the latest tech allows betting establishments to remain on the cutting edge of the field and provide a service their competitors can’t.  Here are a few ways the industry is already using AI:

Better Predictions

Outcome predictions are the most important feature of the sports betting industry.  It’s how the odds are determined and how the betting establishment proves that their offer is fair.  AI can gather and analyze all the data about a sports event and, therefore, predict its outcome with greater accuracy.

It also makes it possible to have live bets and changing odds depending on the events unfolding on the field.  For instance, those who bet on baseball here can cash out their bets during the game and use the advantage they have at the moment.

Game Suggestion

There are countless options when it comes to sports betting.  Players can bet on almost any sport, league, and game happening anywhere in the world.  This has led to the rising popularity of once-minor sports such as bowling or darts.

It’s important for those using the sports betting services to be exposed to new games, new betting options, and new sports.  AI can play a role in suggesting these games to players based on previous experiences and player preferences.

Customer Support

Customer support is one of the most important features of sports betting sites.  Since most sites don’t have a physical location, customer support is the only way for players to reach out to the site and discuss problems and resolve issues.  Therefore, AI is an incredibly useful tool for sports betting sites regarding customer service.

AI can handle most customer service requests as most players have similar, if not the same, questions and can refer the rest to a human who can help further.  This is less expensive and more productive than the alternatives, and most sports betting sites are already doing it.

Future Projects

Artificial Intelligence was just an idea a few years ago and is now widely used.  Many future projects for AI can be widely used once the tech catches up with the player’s expectations.  These will be the future of AI usage for the sports betting industry as they get better and more used.

Creating Betting Strategies

Betting strategies are the way most players make money when making wagers on sports events.  The strategies are made to minimize the risks involved with making bets and to make the most out of the odds offered by the betting sites.  A good betting strategy will mix and match bets of different odds and with different outcomes to diversify the outcome.

AI can do this and utilize the existing data more productively than a player could.  The tech is not there yet, as it depends on trial and error, and the more the AI tries, the better it will get.  At this point, AI can suggest potential betting strategies, and the predictions are improving.

Emphasis on Spread Betting

As AI will make more bets, there will be an increased focus on spread betting.  It’s something that’s already happening even when the players make the bets on their own, as it’s a way to earn big.  AI will be slowly trained to increase the potential wins, leading to more spread bets.

Spread betting is a form of wagering that involves betting on the outcome of an event, typically in sports, where the payoff is based on the accuracy of the wager rather than a simple win-or-lose scenario.  For example, the spread might be set at +/- 7 points in a football match.  If you bet on the favorite, they must win by more than 7 points for your bet to be successful.

Conversely, if you bet on the underdog, they can lose by less than 7 points or win the game outright for your bet to win.

The Importance of Patience

AI predictive models depend on feeding the AI with data.  This means the AI will improve the more it’s used and the more data it can access.  As is the case with any predictive model, trial and error is the best way to go.

Patience with the use of AI is key to making it better.  The sports betting establishments are aware of these, and they are going to promote the use of AI even when it’s not giving the perfect results as a way to help it improve over time.  The players should be the same, even if the outcomes sometimes damage them in the short run.  The good thing is that it is improving by leaps and bounds.

Conclusion

AI is already being widely used in many different industries.  It’s mostly used to improve the existing services and improve every use.  The sports betting industry was one of the first to implement artificial intelligence.  It’s a competitive industry, and the betting sites need to do what they can to create new opportunities for players.

AI predicts the games’ outcome, creates betting strategies, suggests new games, sports, and leagues to players, and provides faster and less expensive customer service.  AI will be used in more ways and provide better results in the years to come as long as the industry keeps providing more data for it to absorb.
