We all know football can be a rather competitive and difficult industry, with it typically solely based on results.
If things are not going a positive way, then we know the chopping board is about to come out and the manager’s head will be placed on it (figuratively…). Indeed, while it may be a cliche, the sport is a results business at the end of the day, especially for those up at the highest level in the Premier League.
The 2022/23 Premier League season was one that was always going to be odd given the fact that the 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place right in the middle of the campaign in a winter slot rather than its traditional summer holding, however many may not have expected the league to have provided us with as many changes as we have already seen this year.
Indeed, while many will have been enjoying the available betting options on Rushbet Mexico where they are able to place wagers on the Premier League action, there may not have been many that will have predicted that a quarter of clubs will have made managerial changes before the start of the FIFA World Cup.
Of course, Steven Gerrard became the latest managerial casualty on Wednesday after he saw his side embarrassed by Fulham at Craven Cottage. The result led to many of the club’s supporters calling for his head, which was duly given just moments after the final whistle following a statement made by the Villains.
The Liverpool legend’s axe was the fourth to have happened in the Premier League as he joined Scott Parker (AFC Bournemouth), Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea), and Bruno Lage (Wolverhampton Wanderers) in being fired, while Brighton and Hove Albion were forced to appoint Roberto De Zerbi after losing Graham Potter to Chelsea following the German’s sacking.
However, while we may have had five managerial changes in England’s top flight, that number could easily rise, with others seemingly under pressure at the clubs that they currently represent on the touchline.
For instance, Brendan Rodgers is perhaps the man with the most heat at the moment, as Leicester City continue to struggle and there have been calls from the Foxes’ faithful to see him handed his P45, however he may have shifted it on Wednesday’s night’s opponent Jesse Marsch after his team defeated Leeds United.
There have even been rumours regarding Steve Cooper’s position at Nottingham Forest in the past, although that has since gone away after he was backed with a new long-term deal.
We are yet to reach the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which is perhaps concerning given the rate in which managers are being changed.
