Redouane Halhal 82' (og)
Half-time 0–0 · Venue: Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo · Referee: Luca J. Pairetto

Inter beat Venezia 2-0 in Serie A on Wednesday 28 October at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo. Both goals came from the hosts’ own players in a three-minute spell late on, after a goalless first half.

Lauberbach’s disallowed goal and two own goals in three minutes

Venezia thought they had taken the lead in the 29th minute. Lion Lauberbach put the ball in the net, but the goal was cancelled after a VAR review. A minute earlier, Alessandro Bastoni had been booked for a foul.

The breakthrough arrived in the 79th minute, when Matias Moreno turned the ball into his own net. Then it happened again. Redouane Halhal scored the second own goal in the 82nd minute, and Nicola’s side had no reply. Nicolò Barella was the other Inter player cautioned, in the 56th minute, while Venezia finished without a card.

Venezia hit the target 4 times with 34% of the ball

Chivu’s side controlled possession with 66% and completed 624 of their 683 passes, against 307 accurate from 362 for Venezia. Inter also had 16 shots to 12, 6 corners to 3 and expected goals of 2.39 to the hosts’ 1.67.

Yet it was Venezia who tested the goalkeeper more often, with 4 shots on target to Inter’s 2. Provedel made 4 saves to keep a clean sheet and was rated 7.75. Carlos Augusto, who had 3 shots and 2 key passes, was rated 7.9, the highest on the pitch, and Zieliński supplied 3 key passes.

The result extends Inter’s grip on this fixture. They have won the last six meetings, including a 5-1 Coppa Italia victory on 3 December 2025 and a 1-0 Serie A win at this ground on 12 January 2025.

Inter level with Lazio on 25 points

Inter are top of Serie A with 8 wins and 1 draw from 9 matches. They share 25 points and a goal difference of 15 with second-placed Lazio, and sit 4 points clear of AS Roma in third. This was a fourth straight win in all competitions, a run that includes victories over Shakhtar Donetsk and Fiorentina since Club Brugge KV beat them 4-3.

Venezia are 20th with 3 points. They have lost 8 of their 9 league games and have a goal difference of -13. Their only win in the last six, across all competitions, was 1-0 against Napoli. Fiorentina, a point above them in 19th, have a game in hand.

The fixture list offers no relief. Inter face the derby away at fifth-placed AC Milan on Saturday 31 October, while Venezia travel to Como, fourth on 20 points, on Sunday 1 November.
