Premier League 2024/25: Why Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh Is A Must Watch This Season

Brighton have made a host of changes over the summer.

After parting ways with manager Roberto De Zerbi and appointing Fabian Hürzeler, the league’s youngest-ever permanent manager, the Seagulls have also lost key player Pascal Groß to Borussia Dortmund

However, there have been very good incoming players, and one of those is the signing of Yankuba Minteh, the 20-year-old electric right-winger from Newcastle United.

The Gambian international spent his time on loan at Feyenoord last season.

Yankuba Minteh Scouting Report & Data Profile

The below visualisation shows where Minteh ranked for some of the key metrics compared with the other right-wingers from leagues of the same quality as the Eredivisie in 2023/24.

Finishing as the club’s second-highest scorer with 10 goals at Feyenoord last season, Minteh ticks a lot of attacking attributes needed for a right-winger to play regularly at the Premier League level.

A very good finisher (overperforming his xG), Minteh is a high-volume dribbler and, thereby, someone who can progress attacks quickly.

As seen in the visual above, Minteh ranks above average for a number of attacking metrics; he also brings a solid defensive work rate to the table that distinguishes him from most other right-wingers.

With explosive pace that does not match any of the current forwards at Brighton, Minteh is more suited to teams that attack quickly and directly.

Playing for Arne Slot’s Feyenoord upped his game in a possession-based team — evident in the numbers above.

If a club like Brighton, who are known to set the benchmark for scouting and talent ID decided to make Minteh their record signing, very few could argue.

There has already been evidence of what type of player Minteh is and how he suits Brighton during the recently concluded pre-season when Minteh finished with three goals and two assists.

For that and so many more reasons, Yankuba Minteh is not just Brighton’s player to watch out for this season but also one of the players to watch out for from the entirety of the Premier League.
