Every Euro 2020 side has played one game, some with greater results than others. If they have been qualified for the past 16 years, some managers must reconsider their choices. Here are 5 players that did not start the first games for their teams, but if included in the next matches, could have a major impact.
#1: Jack Grealish – England
In their first Euro 2020 match at Wembley on Sunday, England defeated Croatia 1-0. Raheem Sterling scored soon after the restart to give the competition a fantastic start. Last season, Jack Grealish was the most fouled player in the EPL. Only Kevin De Bruyne made 90 more crucial passes in the campaign than the Aston Villa midfielder. Phil Foden may be England’s golden child, but he was rather quiet against Croatia, and many supporters wanted Grealish to get a chance.
#2: Gerard Moreno – Spain
Gerard Moreno scored more goals in the league last season than Lionel Messi. Spain’s first Euro 2020 game against Sweden saw the Villarreal striker on the bench. Luis Enrique chose Álvaro Morata to start and the decision was not the best. Spain looked poor against Sweden and the game ended without a goal. Morata only managed three shots on goal in 66 minutes, so Moreno must be given a chance in the next game.
#3: Nikola Vlasic – Croatia
Croatia faces the Czech Republic on Friday evening at Hampden Parkhead so make sure to follow the live score or ผลบอลสดวันนี้ in Thai; if you’re placing a wager on this one. The team of Zlatko Dalic won just two of their past ten matches, which were against poor opposition, Cyprus and Malta. Nikola Vlasic may be the perfect connection between the midfield and Croatia’s offense. The 23-year-old completed the season with 11 goals in the Russian Premier League and five assists.
#4: André Silva – Portugal
Portugal defeated Hungary 3-0 on Tuesday night in their first Euro Group B encounter. In the 81st minute of André Silva’s debut, Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice and Raphael Guerreiro added a third. Portugal benefited from Fernando Santos’ choice to introduce Silva against Hungary because it gave defenders more to think about, so he may be a starter for the next match.
#5: Che Adams – Scotland
Andy Robertson was the only Scotland player to make more important passes than Che Adams in Monday’s 2-0 loss to the Czech Republic, despite playing in only one half of the game. After Adams’ entrance, 13 of Scotland’s 19 shots arrived. With Steve Clarke having such a player and he decided not to start him seems very odd.
Final Thoughts
Even though many players did not get into the team for their nation’s first match, there is still a long way to go and I expect at least one of the above players to play a major role in the tournament. Which player that was left out of your national team would you like to see included in the next match? Let us know in the comments below.
