How much did each Premier League side spend in the 2020 summer transfer window?

Premier League 2020/21: Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur - Tactical Analysis Tactics

Notice the difference tasks Pogba and Matić, with the latter defend in a man-oriented manner. Also, observe the huge space between the men in red; underlining the lack of compactness.

With the conclusion of the international summer transfer window, now would be a great time to look at how each of the Premier League clubs spent their money throughout the window to improve their squads.

Transfer fees had been on the rise over the last few years, however this season’s window was a little different with the current situation being faced in the world causing so much uncertainty and providing big hits on financial resources, thus bringing fees back down to an, arguably, reasonable level.

Indeed, it appeared to be a buyer’s market as clubs were perhaps in more need to sell than they would have hoped, but that could only be a good thing for bettors as they will now be able to place bets with sites like https://s-bobet.com/ on certain individuals and teams that they may not have been able to in the past.

But, how much did each club look to spend in the summer? According to figures from talkSPORT, some top-flight clubs actually managed to make a profit, although this may have angered their own fanbases as it could be seen that they were not strengthening when perhaps they should have.

20. Brighton: -£10.2m Spent: £6.3m Sold: -£16.5m

Brighton sold Aaron Mooy early on in the window, and whilst they added Ben White to their ranks for free, they also managed to do some great cheap deals in the form of Joel Veltman and Adam Lallana whilst still achieving a profit.

19. West Ham: -£50k Spent: £19.98m Sold: £20.03m

The Hammers are a club that are perhaps desperate to see some investment be brought into the squad in certain areas, therefore receiving more money than spent and not enough acquisitions being made could make for an even tenser atmosphere around the club.

18. Burnley: £1m Spent: £1m Sold: £0

Burnley lost some of their stars at the end of their contracts for nothing but only spent a little themselves. A quite window at Turf Moor.

17. Crystal Palace: £1.5m Spent: £19.5m Sold: £18m

Eberechi Eze cost the £19.5m outlay, however if he performs as well as he can, then the Eagles can be quite happy with their business.

16. Wolves: £2.34m Spent: £73.62m Sold: £71.28m

Wolves had a rather mixed window as they managed to bring in some talented young players, however, the departure of Diogo Jota could be huge.

15. Leicester: £10.4m Spent: £57m Sold: £46.6m

Timothy Castagne’s arrival looks to have been a brilliant piece of business, whilst there is hype about Wesley Fofana. Ben Chilwell’s departure helped fund those deals.

14. Southampton: £13.5m Spent: £36.27m Sold: £22.77m

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg departed, whilst deadwood was cleared for the likes of Theo Walcott and defensive recruits Ibrahima Diallo, Mohammed Salisu and Kyle Walker-Peters all joined.

13. West Brom: £21.33m Spent: £22.32m Sold: £990k

Having used some of the money they earned from winning promotion from the Championship, the Baggies splashed out on Grady Diangana.

12. Fulham: £21.5m Spent: £21.5m Sold: £0

Scott Parker’s side were rather frugal, considering they perhaps needed the most investment this summer.

11. Newcastle: £34.63m Spent: £34.88m Sold: £248k

Mike Ashley might be criticised for his lack of spending, but he did fork out over £34m this summer despite seemingly appearing to sell the club.

10. Liverpool: £38.99m Spent: £76.7m Sold: £37.71m

There was an argument that Liverpool did not need to spend too much, but Jurgen Klopp still managed to find positions within his squad to upgrade. Thiago and Diogo Jota both came through the Anfield doors.

9. Tottenham: £47.79m Spent: £59.76m Sold: £11.97m

Despite having spent a shade under £60m, Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy still managed to get Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguillon and Matt Doherty into the club.

8. Sheffield United £50.58m Spent: £50.58m Sold: £0

Rhian Brewster and Aaron Ramsdale were brought to Bramall Lane as Sheffield United look to build on an impressive first year back in the Premier League.

7. Arsenal: £57.7m Spent: £77.7m Sold: £20m

Deadline day signing, Thomas Partey, will have put an exclamation mark on the party that the Gunners will have had this summer after signing the likes of Willian and Gabriel, although they did lose Emiliano Martinez.

6. Manchester City: £70.9m Spent: £138.6m Sold: £67.7m

Nathan Ake, Ferran Torres, Ruben Dias and others cost City just under £140m, however it is perhaps a surprise they were not near the top of the list considering how far they finished behind Liverpool.

5. Manchester United: £73.4m Spent: £87m Sold: £13.6m

A number of youngsters and Donny van de Beek cost United £73.4m, however fans will have been disappointed that Jadon Sancho still did not arrive at Old Trafford.

4. Aston Villa: £81m Spent: £81m Sold: £0

Villa went on a spending spree this season as they stayed up by the skin of their teeth last season, investing wisely in players like Martinez and Ollie Watkins. They also managed to keep hold of their stars.

3. Everton: £83m Spent: £87m Sold: £4m

Arguably one of the clubs to have conducted the best business this summer, Carlo Ancelotti managed to bring the likes of James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure to Goodison Park in deals that could be considered bargains already!

2. Leeds: £96.4m Spent: £96.4m Sold: £0

Marcelo Bielsa has been backed this summer with transfer funds as the Whites look to remain in the Premier League after 16 long years away. Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Rodrigo Moreno are just some of the names to have arrived at Elland Road.

1. Chelsea: £155.8m Spent: £222m Sold: £66.2m

It is no surprise that Chelsea are at the top of the list, as everyone knows how much Frank Lampard has been involved in the transfer market this summer. Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, Edouard Mendy, Ben Chilwell and a host of others all joined the Stamford Bridge ranks for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
