FC Bayern have started their new era under Vincent Kompany as well as anybody can—unbeaten after 10 games and top of the table, largely because of their clinical performance in front of the goal.
Kompany’s men have scored 33 goals with an xG of just 24.24 — an overperformance of 8.76, the highest in the league.
Frankfurt are next with a difference of 5.4, with 26 goals and 20.6 xG.
Mainz and Wolfsburg are the only other teams with a goals-xG difference greater than two (by 4.2 and 2.9, respectively).
Dortmund (by 0.42) has had an underwhelming start to the season—currently seventh in the table.
Werder Bremen (by 0.27) and Hoffenheim (by 0.51) are the only other teams that have overperformed their xG, although by only a very small margin.
The visualisation below shows the underperformance and overperformance of all 18 teams in the Bundesliga season so far in attack and defence.
RB Leipzig, second in the table and five points behind the leaders, is the biggest overperformer in defence, conceding only five goals from an xGA of 18.46.
It will be interesting to see how this number pans out for the Red Bull club in the upcoming games.
