North Macedonia are making their debut at a major tournament at EURO 2020, and while they gave a good account of themselves in the opening match, Austria ultimately had too much quality and came away with a 3-1 win in Bucharest. Austria took the lead through the wing-back Stefan Lainer, who expertly volleyed Marcel Sabitzers perfect cross into the net, but were soon pegged back after a mistake from goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann allowed the North Macedonia captain and veteran Goran Pandev to score into an empty net.
